Microsoft recently announced that the Forefront TMG 2010 product is being discontinued and support will be suspended April 14, 2015
In order to continue providing superior firewall, secure web proxy, VPN and other advanced networking and security capabilities you should consider migrating your Forefront TMG to an Endian UTM solution immediately. The Endian UTM platform includes the same functionality as the Forefront TMG product and much more all in a simple, highly secure solution. Most notable of these functionalities, the Endian UTM 3.0.5 release* includes an all new reverse proxy feature (comparable to TMG).
This feature allows users to directly map web resources directly through the Endian to servers sitting on the private network behind it without the use of NAT or VPN. One major benefit of the reverse proxy is that you can publish multiple URL paths publicly to your users while mapping these to single or multiple servers in your private network. This provides increased security while allowing you to be more efficient in the utilization of your public IP address space.
The reverse proxy feature also includes advanced security services that can be implemented on the exposed web resources. As an example, you could add Microsoft Active Directory or LDAP group and/or user authentication to any single web resource (or all of them) such that in order for a user to access the web application they would have to successfully authenticate using their valid credentials.
Last, but not least, you can utilize SSL encryption to enhance the web application security even your internal web server does not support or have this enabled. The result means that you can layer authentication and SSL encryption onto your internal web resources centrally from your network security gateway appliance thus increasing your public web application security while reducing your management overhead. Act now to begin the transition from TMG to Endian UTM and get more security, connectivity and simplicity from your network gateway solution!
* To be released soon to all existing Endian UTM customers with a valid maintenance package
