The Challenge
One of the major challenges was to implement the development and operation of a secure Virtual Private Network based upon Open VPN. In the process, 8 sites should be connected to the headquarters within a manageable timeframe.
Simple implementation and handling within the running operation, best performance, and high system stability and good management of the systems were of great importance in the selection. Also an "open" System was favoured.
Notebooks and PC’s located in the branch offices were operated as thin clients through a central Citrix server with appliances such as facility management, property management, accounting and office appliances (including imoh e-Mail).
The Solution
After the Endian Community Version successfully completed extensive tests in spring of 2007, the first Endian UTM appliance "Mercury" was purchased in July of 2007. Today the network includes 4 Mercurys and 5 Endian Minis as hardware appliances.
The UTM functions that Endian offers, such as Open VPN, Proxy, Firewall, Routing, Load Balancing, Mail Security, Web Security, SPAM Filter and the Endian network, are utilized.
The Results
The project was successfully completed in November 2008. The use of other existing Endian appliances such as HotSpot functionality as well as VoIP for telephoning is planned in additional project extensions.
Endian Open VPN was convincingly simple to set up with only a few mouse clicks and was immediately stable. Also the performance of the Endian appliances is impressive according to the project manager.
Statement
"We are very satisfied with our selection of the manufacturer Endian from South Tyrol as well as with the company CONACTIVE as implementation partner here in Germany. So far we have not had any system failures whatsoever. Also the management of our network is simple and comfortable with the Endian network.“
"We can recommend the Endian UTM products with a clear conscience."
